What to do in Saskatoon with Your Online Student This Summer

Summer is here, which means both you and your online student will want to get out and experience the fresh air. Fortunately, Saskatoon hosts many events over the course of the summer that are fun, engaging, educational and active. It’s time for you and your student to enjoy the fresh air and soak up the sun (with sunscreen of course).

Finding a balance between education and outdoor activity can be intimidating, but fortunately, the city of Saskatoon offers such a wide variety of events that your options are endless. These events are a balance of art physical activity and education to integrate into any lessons or just provide a nice break.

After all, you don’t need to be cooped up at home to learn new things! Your online student will love getting to take part in these exciting events in Saskatoon:

Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan

Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan is an outdoor theatre event that will open your child’s eyes to live theatre and the works and history of Shakespeare! The playwright’s works are so well known at this point that your child is bound to recognize at least one play title.

This summer, the festival is putting on As You Like It and The Comedy of Errorsin in the big tent this summer on the riverbank across from Kinsmen Park.

The shows will run from July 2rd to August 18, 2019 — which leaves ample time for you to schedule in that theatre date night! Tickets are particularly affordable, as they are available anywhere between $15 to $38.

Picnic at Wanuskewin Park

Saskatoon is full of parks, but there is something special about the Wanuskewin Park. This park commemorates the city’s aboriginal heritage and contains archaeological sites older than the ancient Egyptian pyramids — that’s a long time. The park is incredibly well preserved and hosts a wide variety of programs including story times, sleepovers in a Tipi and education lectures!

You can also have a picnic at one of the parks designated picnic areas to split up your day and refuel yourself and your online student for some more exploring before you head back home.

Nutrien Fringe Theatre Festival

There is no denying the impact of bringing a child to the theatre. The experience is eye-opening and brings an element of drama education to their learning.

Live stage plays open up an entirely different world of storytelling that will help students make further connections between how a story is told on stage, versus how it’s told on screen, or in text. The festival will take place from August 1st to 10th and tickets are only $15!

Spend a Day at the Saskatoon Ex

Let’s go to the Saskatoon Ex! The amusement park is packed with rides, food vendors, shows, attractions and more, this event makes for the perfect fun-filled day out with your student.
