Making The Most Out Of Online Learning

Online learning can be daunting. For those not accustomed to homeschooling or learning online, it can be difficult for students and parents to quickly adjust. Flex ED recognizes your concern. To make your switch to online learning as flawless as we can make it, here are three ways you can make the most out of online learning, and the Flex ED classrooms.

1. Establish A Good Workplace

Online learning takes the distractions out of the traditional classroom setup. However, online learning also adds its own unique distractions. Other kids, recess, and social exclusion are now replaced by barking dogs, television, and your child’s toys & games. To minimize distractions, and ensure your children are learning at their maximum, it is essential to establish a quiet workspace.

2. Get To Know Your Peers & Instructor

A common misconception of online learning is that it takes away any social interaction between students & teachers. To make the most out of online learning, message other students in your online class. Get to know their likes and dislikes, and try to establish other friends in your classroom. Although social interaction might not be face to face, your children will have a much more enjoyable time knowing they still have friends in their online class.

3. Ask For Help When Needed

Without a teacher in the classroom, some students (and parents) may find it difficult to bypass any problems with homework questions, or general concepts. Don’t let this stop you from getting the most out of your online class. With Flex ED, our teachers are just a click or call away. Never hesitate to get help, as that’s what we’re here for.

4. Stay organized

As with any course, but especially for an online one, it’s important to stay organized. Organize all of your files in a way that makes sense to you. It’s also wise to keep a copy of anything you submit in the event that a technology problem requires you to resubmit it—because let’s be honest, sometimes it just doesn’t want to work the first time. Don’t forget to take good notes while doing your readings or watching online videos just as you would in any other class.

5. Manage Time Wisely

A part of staying organized that’s so important it deserves to be its own tip is having strong time management skills. Online schooling certainly give you a lot of flexibility in terms of when you do your studying, but that doesn’t mean you don’t have to study!
Just as you might attend a face-to-face class at a regular time each week, you need to schedule time (and enough of it) in your personal calendar to study the materials in your online course and complete assignments. Treat those blocks of time as seriously as you would a face-to-face class by sticking to them, letting your friends and family know you are unavailable during those times, and consistently using your workspace during those times. Keep a close eye on assignment due dates as well, adding those to your personal calendar as well.
